Team Hazel wins Bluboats Cup 2019

For the second consecutive year, team ‘Hazel’ from Zurich Yacht Club secured not only the win of the blu26 Cup Zurich, but also the overall bluboats Cup for 2019.

Looking back, the blu26 season 2019 was exceptionally diverse: over 23 teams, 70 races, more than 100 sailors and regattas in four countries!  And with no sign of any race hangover, team Hazel sailed through the season.  After five blu26 Cups, six races determined the annual winner last weekend.  The first day challenged the sailors during five races with winds up to 4 bft – gusting up to 5 bft – and partly heavy rain.  On the second day the wind weakened. Still, the patience and determination of the race officer payed off and an additional race could be realized.

This season, 23 teams were listed for the yearly ranking, led by team ‘Hazel’ from Zurich Yacht Club with Anita Di Lasio, Michael Klötzli (skipper), Bruno Coduri and Dirk Euler. With the win of the blu26 Cup Zurich, team ‘Hazel’ was also able to secure the overall win of the bluboats Cup 2019. Team ‘Hazel’ won the Zurich Cup followed by the Danish team ‘GoSail’ with skipper Soeren Laugesen in second place and team ‘Sailingcenter’ with skipper Julian Franke-Ruthel, of Yacht Club Bad Wiessee, Germany in third. In the annual ranking, team ‘Voodoo Child’ was second und team ‘Giachen Ün’ third overall.

The day before the races, the annual meeting of the blu26 International Class Association took place on Friday, 4 October. Two new committee members were voted, and new initiatives presented and agreed to maintain the attractiveness of the blu26 class. The next sailing season is awaiting the blu26 sailors with yet again an exciting schedule. We look forward to seeing you next year!

Bluboats would like to thank herewith the blu26 class and the Zurich Yacht Club for the perfect organisation of the Zurich Herbstpreis 2019 and for the excellent hosting.

Regattaclub Bodensee wins first blu26 Swiss Championship

The Blu26 Swiss Championship, part of the 5th Fleet Race Battle Engadin in St. Moritz, welcomed teams from Switzerland, Germany, Austria and Montenegro. The Sailing Club St. Moritz hosted the regatta in its 75th anniversary from the 2nd to the 4th September. In addition to the Club’s anniversary, two premieres were celebrated.

The first official Swiss championship of the fledgling Blu26 class and the first implementation of a Swiss championship under Addendum Q – umpired fleet racing.

On Friday morning, at 11 am sharp, the sailors met at the skippers meeting. The six blu26 boats, which were provided by Giachen Racing, Badrutt’s Palace, the Youth Regatta Förderverein and Bluboats, were readily available for the teams. In perfect synchrony with the Maloja winds, race director Marc Knöpfel gave way to 11 races. After the first race day the teams from regatta Club Bodensee, Swiss Racing Sailors and Raluluto were in the lead.

Also on Saturday, the second regatta day, was the Engadine at its best as a wind Mecca of Switzerland. The teams sailed a further 10 regattas with moderate to severe Maloja wind. Numerous spectators lined the shores of Lake St. Moritz and witnessed the exciting battles on the lake. Several photo finish, various false starts and an incident involving a man overboard increased the race fever, keeping the tension on the second day of the competition until the end. The Regatta Club Bodensee maintained the leadership, while the local team from the Sailing Club St. Moritz with Giachen Duas raised to second place and the Swiss Racing Sailors slipped down to third in the interim count.

On Sunday, the third and last race day, a last round of qualifications determined the Bronze, Silver and Gold fleets, with points counting double in the final races. Following an early onset of the wind, perfect for the decision day, the final battle was launched. Before the final qualifying round for the Gold fleet, seven teams were virtually tight, separated by the minimum difference of 2 points. After the planned 24 races determined the fleets, the Bronze and Silver fleet sailed one final regatta each, and the Gold fleet sailed two. Julian Flessati and his crew from the Regatta Club Bodensee rejoiced at their final victory. Ending second and third in the two final races, their gap shrank to a point – still enough for the first Swiss title in the young club history – one they will bring back home to Lake Constance. The grand prize: a long ski weekend in Hotel Crystal**** for the entire crew. On the 2nd place, the local team Giachen Duas from the Sailing Club St. Moritz, got the price donated by Hotel Hauser – also a long ski weekend in St. Moritz. The podium was completed by Raluluto from Zurich Yacht club drove back home the bronze medal with a full load (all you can take!) of Passugger water.

Many thanks to St. Moritz tourism, Swiss Sailing, all partners, the race committee with their helpers and the sailing club of St. Moritz who have made this event possible.

IMG_2000

For the season finale the blu26 fleet met at the Zurich Yacht Club for the ‘Herbstpreis II’. In beautiful late summer weather 4 races could be held. With two bullets out of these four races, the youngster team of Philippe Guyer and the Looser Brothers paved the way to the win of this regatta. With equal points followed, but second ranked, Voodoo Child could secure the first podium of the season. The podium was completed by Beat Müller on blunote with only one point less than the victors.

Thanks to a 4th place at the ‘Herbstpreis II’ and more importantly a very consistent season, team hazel was able to win the annual blu26 ranking and secure the bluboats cup 2015. Already with the victory at the class championship in Thun they showed their ambitions and never gave the lead out of hands throughout the whole blu26 season. Congratulations team hazel! With only 2 points behind blunote secured 2nd place in the annual ranking. With 4 podiums they showed the most consistent season of all teams. Giachen Duos, last years winner of the bluboats cup finished 3rd.
