The first blu26 regatta of the season took place at the end of May on the Lake of Zug. On Saturday, seven blu26 boats competed in the long distance race Goldschäkel organized by the Immensee Yacht Club. Sunday saw them in six fleet races on the water in front of the Yacht Club Zug. Both days were marked by brilliant sunshine and good wind, which allowed all the teams to thoroughly enjoy themselves.
The long distance race on Saturday was narrowly won by Team blunote SUI 03 skippered by Fabio Müller. Second place was taken by SUI 02 with Nick Zumbühl at the helm, followed by Thomas Grob on SUI 07 in third. In the overall ranking of the group of 30 boats, Fabio Müller with the blu26 was the winner, and Bruno Imhof on an Esse 850 was second.
The fleet races on Sunday started at 10:00 and thanks to very favorable winds, six races could be held by 15:00. The day was clearly dominated by skipper Philip Peikert and his crew of Monnin, Pieper and Gschwend, who won four races. The blunote team gave Peikert and the “local matador” Monnin a good run for their money.
With the distance race counting double, plus the six races on Sunday, the final rankings for theblu26 Zugerseecup 2009 are as follows:
1. SUI 01 – Philipp Peikert, bluone
2. SUI 03 – Fabio Müller, blunote
3. SUI 02 – Nick Zumbühl / Markus Bohren, blutwo
